Overview
Mortal Shell II is the standalone sequel to the Soulslike Mortal Shell, developed by Cold Symmetry and published by Playstack. It was announced at Summer Game Fest in June 2025 and launched on 20 August 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. You play the Harbinger, who possesses the bodies of fallen warriors called Shells in order to recover the stolen eggs of the Undermether.
OtaHub's take
The biggest change is combat. The game drops the familiar stamina bar of the Soulslike genre in favor of a posture mechanic: you attack relentlessly to break an enemy's stance, then land an execution. Combat also adds stealth, ranged sidearms and finishers tailored to each weapon type.
The world is a compact but tightly connected open map containing more than 60 hidden dungeons. There are eight playable Shells, each with its own stats and playstyle. The music is by Lustmord and A. Liam Neighbours and keeps the dark atmosphere of the first game. The standard edition costs 49.99 USD, and the Devout Edition grants up to 72 hours of early access.
Verdict
Suits Soulslike players who want a more aggressive combat flow, and fans of the first game who want a wider world.
