Stranger Than Heaven is available to pre-order on Steam ahead of its January 14, 2027 release. The Vietnamese store lists the standard edition at VND 1,020,000 and the Deluxe edition at VND 1,332,000. RGG Studio develops the game, with SEGA publishing.

A search for home across five decades

Makoto Daito is the son of an American father and a Japanese mother. After losing both parents and facing persecution over his Asian heritage, he stows away aboard a ship leaving San Francisco in 1915. He hopes that his mother’s homeland might offer him a place to belong.

His life unfolds across five Japanese cities modelled on real locations. The story starts in Kokura in 1915, moves through Kure, Minami and Atami, and reaches Shinjuku in 1965. Industrial towns, ports and entertainment districts provide changing settings as Makoto lives through wartime and postwar Japan.

Independent left- and right-side combat

Players control the left and right sides of Makoto’s body independently. One example is blocking a strike with one hand before countering with the other. Other options include charged attacks, tackling staggered opponents and pinning enemies down for follow-up punches.

Knives, hammers and katanas join unarmed combat. Reading an opponent’s movements and finding an opening to switch from defence to attack are central to the system described by the developer.

Turning street sounds into stage performances

Makoto’s mentor discovers his musical talent, setting him on a path into show production. Players gather rumours around town to find singers and performers.

Music creation starts with recording everyday sounds, from sweeping brooms and passing trains to animals and even the noise of a fight. Players combine these recordings into new tracks, then choose a setlist, arrange the band, assign performers and design the lighting and staging.

Steam editions and language support

The Deluxe edition adds an outfit for Makoto, four weapons, four performers and three stage production items. It also includes a poster, a record player for listening to music at the home base and a camera that expands photography features. Pre-orders include the in-game Dosu: Kagekiri weapon.

Steam currently lists 13 supported languages, without Vietnamese. English and Japanese include interfaces, subtitles and full audio. Vietnamese players following the story will need to use one of the supported languages.
