The official Yona of the Dawn anime account announced on October 20, 2026 that Pierrot Films will handle animation production for the sequel. The announcement identifies the production brand behind the project first revealed late last year.
Publisher Hakusensha initially announced the sequel on December 19, 2025, when the manga's final main-series chapter appeared in Hana to Yume. The latest update names its animation producer, while the release format, premiere timing and individual staff remain unannounced as of October 20.

How is Pierrot Films connected to the first anime?
Pierrot Films is an animation production brand belonging to Pierrot, publicly introduced in July 2024. In its launch announcement, the company said the brand would operate alongside Studio Pierrot. The new production credit therefore does not mean the sequel has moved to an entirely unrelated company.
Studio Pierrot produced the original 24-episode TV anime, which aired from October 2014 to March 2015. Naming the sequel's production brand provides a new milestone more than a decade after that first TV season.
Princess Yona's journey
Yona of the Dawn, also known as Akatsuki no Yona, is based on Mizuho Kusanagi's manga. Yona grows up sheltered in the royal palace until a tragedy on her sixteenth birthday forces her to flee with her bodyguard Hak. Outside the palace, she must face a world she has never had to navigate for herself.
Meeting the priest Ik-su leads Yona towards four legendary Dragon Warriors. Her search accompanies a more personal transformation as she learns to stand on her own after losing her former life. That combination of adventure and growing independence forms the story's central appeal.
