Three years after ending with the compilation movie THE LAST ATTACK, Attack on Titan suddenly returned to the center of attention when WIT Studio, the studio that adapted the first three anime seasons before MAPPA took over, officially posted a mysterious teaser image on its official X account, with the message: "It looks like they, during 'that period', will be holding a special dinner."
Update: On August 20, WIT Studio revealed what the teaser was about: the Attack on Titan Café “A Teenage Dinner” event in Japan, running September 3 to October 12, 2026, with reservations opening August 20, featuring new illustrations, themed food and merchandise. It is not an announcement of a new anime or film.
Six characters, one mysterious dinner
The teaser image brings together the full cast of characters most loved by fans: Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, Armin Arlert, Levi Ackerman, Erwin Smith and Hange Zoe, along with the text "20/8/2026" displayed in the bottom corner of the image. Notably, observers quickly spotted unusual details: Mikasa is wearing an eye patch, something she never wore throughout the entire original series, while Eren is depicted playing with chopsticks as if toying with a bowl of noodles. These unconventional details further reinforce the notion that the upcoming project is not a new anime season, but more likely a collaborative product line, possibly related to food or special merchandise.
Context: an eventful year for the Attack on Titan legacy
This unexpected return comes right after a series of celebratory activities throughout 2026: MAPPA just released a special illustration for Attack on Titan to celebrate the studio's 15th anniversary, and also confirmed a new opening animation created by MAPPA itself for the game. Attack on Titan 3 coming soon. Manufacturer Tetsuya Kinoshita also opened up about new film projects and collaborations in the brand's future.
