Overview
Diablo IV is the fourth mainline entry in the action-RPG series, developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released on 5 June 2023 (the Steam version arrived on 17 October 2023). The story takes place about 50 years after Diablo III, when Lilith, daughter of Mephisto, is summoned to the world of Sanctuary. Players take the role of the Wanderer, trying to stop her plan to summon the Lesser Evils and seize Hell.
OtaHub's take
The game returns the series to a darker tone and expands into a world shared with other players, combining the familiar hack-and-slash combat, loot hunting and build crafting. There are now eight classes: Barbarian, Sorcerer, Druid, Rogue, Necromancer, Spiritborn, Paladin and Warlock. Since July 2023 it has run in seasons of roughly three months, each with its own quests, battle pass and journey.
On the expansion side, Vessel of Hatred (8 October 2024) added the Spiritborn class and the Nahantu region, while Lord of Hatred (April 2026) added the Paladin, Warlock and the Skovos Isles. Blizzard says it is the last expansion currently planned. According to OtaHub, Diablo 5 was announced at BlizzCon 2026 for spring 2029, but Diablo IV will keep receiving seasons while the community stays engaged, and the Amazon returns in the first half of 2027.
Verdict
Diablo IV suits players who enjoy loot hunting and testing builds season by season, especially now that it has many classes and two expansions. Note that it is always online and needs a Battle.net account.
