Overview

Hades II is an action roguelike developed and published by Supergiant Games, a direct follow-up to Hades (2020). The lead is Melinoë, princess of the Underworld and sister of Zagreus. When Chronos, the Titan of Time, returns and imprisons her family, Melinoë is trained by the witch goddess Hecate to find a way to defeat him. The game entered Early Access on PC in May 2024, reached version 1.0 on 25 September 2025 on PC, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, then arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 14 April 2026.

OtaHub's take

The familiar structure remains: each run is a push through a chain of regions full of monsters and bosses, collecting Boons from the Olympian gods to shape your build. The difference is that Melinoë leans heavily on magic, with a Magick bar feeding stronger Omega moves. Two parallel routes, down into the Underworld or up to the surface toward Olympus, give each run its own rhythm. Between attempts, the Crossroads hub is where you upgrade, craft and talk with the cast.

The core team from the first game is almost entirely back: Greg Kasavin directs, Jen Zee leads the art, and Darren Korb composes alongside Austin Wintory. As OtaHub's article on the Noclip documentary series explains, the studio itself once thought it would not make a sequel, but returned because Greek mythology still had so many characters and stories left untouched. Developing in public through Early Access let Supergiant reshape content based on player feedback before the full release.

Verdict

Hades II suits players who loved the first game and want a deeper system with more build options. Newcomers can still start here, since the story is told clearly run by run, but anyone unused to the repetition at the heart of a roguelike will need some patience in the first few hours.
