Overview

Kingdom Hearts is a Square Enix action RPG series, directed and creatively led by Tetsuya Nomura since the start, mixing Disney film worlds and characters with original characters and a few from Final Fantasy. According to Wikipedia, the first game launched in 2002 on PlayStation 2, and The Walt Disney Company owns the franchise. The main entries include Kingdom Hearts (2002), Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, 358/2 Days, Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance, χ and Kingdom Hearts III (2019).

OtaHub's take

Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] launched on 8/10/2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the PC version sold through the Microsoft Store. The collection is split into three packs. HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX contains Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, II Final Mix, Birth by Sleep Final Mix and the HD cutscene compilations of 358/2 Days and Re:coded. HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue contains Dream Drop Distance HD, χ Back Cover and 0.2 Birth by Sleep. The third is Kingdom Hearts III with the Re Mind DLC. The full set comes physical and digital, while the individual packs are digital only.

On Switch 2 the games run natively instead of through the cloud like earlier Switch versions, and HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX also launched natively on the original Switch. Players of the Switch Cloud version can transfer save data to Switch 2. Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind has a free Switch 2 demo, where Olympus save data carries over and Toy Box data does not. Kingdom Hearts IV has been announced since April 2022 and is unreleased, per Wikipedia. The coverage of the collection does not mention prices.

Verdict

It suits anyone who wants to start the Kingdom Hearts series without hunting down old versions across several consoles. The story is spread over many entries, so playing the whole set takes a long time. Owners of older versions should check each platform's upgrade and save transfer terms before buying again.
