Overview
One Punch Man began as a webcomic that ONE self-published from 2009, before Yusuke Murata redrew it as a remake serialized on Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump platform since 14 June 2012. Saitama is a hero just for fun, and after three years of training he has become so strong that he defeats every opponent with one punch. The price is emptiness: no fight thrills him anymore. He takes the cyborg Genos as his disciple and joins the Hero Association.
OtaHub's take
The series is both a satire of the superhero and shonen genres and a serious action manga. Since the protagonist cannot lose, the tension shifts to the heroes around him, who have to genuinely fight the monsters, and to the association's bureaucratic ranking machine. Murata's art, famous for its precise anatomy and densely detailed action pages, is a big reason the remake has far outgrown the original in popularity.
The first anime season was made by Madhouse in 2015, while the second and third belong to J.C.Staff; season three aired from October to December 2025, and its second part is set to premiere in 2027. According to OtaHub, chapter 283 was released on 27 August 2026 with a cover that Murata drew from a real pose by his son, Keisuke.
Verdict
Suited to readers who want spectacular action but also enjoy laughing at stories that break shonen conventions, especially those who value draftsmanship. Anime viewers will find that the manga goes considerably further in the plot, and ONE's original webcomic makes for interesting extra reading to compare the two ways of telling the story.
