Very good

Legendary assassin retires and opens a convenience store. Action-packed cinematic production combined with heartwarming family humor.

Overview

Sakamoto Days is built on a productive contradiction: Taro Sakamoto was once a legendary hitman, but left that life after falling in love, marrying, and opening a neighborhood store. VIZ identifies Yuto Suzuki as creator, while official Shonen Jump pages maintain chapter and volume listings. The family premise gives every fight an ethical boundary beyond displaying power.

OtaHub's take

Its clearest strength is action staging. Suzuki establishes physical space before accelerating through low angles, motion lines, and page turns. Everyday objects become tactical tools, so dense battles remain readable and every assassin develops a distinct combat identity.

The store and found-family cast provide the emotional center. Shin, Lu, and the ensemble expand the question of whether someone shaped by violence can sustain an ordinary life. The trade-off is a growing number of factions and assassins, which can be difficult to track when reading intermittently.

Character silhouettes and expressions are immediately legible, and major chapters show excellent control of rhythm. Transitional chapters can lean on exposition, while supporting-character depth varies. Pure-thriller readers may want more interiority; readers seeking inventive action and strong group chemistry are better served.

Verdict

Sakamoto Days earns its score through readable choreography, memorable identities, and environmental storytelling. Its limitations are faction density and uneven supporting depth. Start from volume one because the domestic foundation gives later action its meaning.
