Overview

Persona 4 Revival is a remake of Persona 4 Golden (2012), the expanded version of Persona 4 (2008), developed by Atlus's P-Studio and published by Sega. The protagonist is a high school student who moves to the rural town of Inaba for a year, just as a string of mysterious murders begins alongside rumours of the Midnight Channel, a broadcast that only appears on rainy midnights. He and his friends awaken the power of Persona and step into the world inside the TV to uncover the truth.

OtaHub's take

Revival keeps the story and content of Golden, but rebuilds all the visuals to match Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload, while adding many modern conveniences: a minimap while walking around Inaba, phone messages to arrange Social Link meetings, sprinting in dungeons and blocking Shadows before they ambush you. In battle, Baton Pass returns, along with a Prime Time gauge that lets skills be used for free and a Series Finale finisher.

The animated cutscenes are produced by MAPPA. Ryota Kozuka composes new music and rearranges Shoji Meguro's original score, with vocals by Shiori Sasaki. The original Japanese voice cast returns, while the English dub uses an almost entirely new cast. Announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2025, the game launches on 18 February 2027 on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S, day one on Game Pass. The Nintendo Switch 2 version follows on 20 May 2027.

Verdict

Revival is the most convenient way for newcomers to experience Persona 4 without its dated interface and pacing, and longtime fans get a reason to return to Inaba thanks to the refreshed combat. Anyone who enjoyed Persona 3 Reload will likely feel right at home. Switch 2 players will need to wait about three months longer than other platforms.
