The central figure is Shirō Yamaoka, a food reporter at Tōzai News assigned to the "Ultimate Menu" project. His rival is his own father, the gourmet artist Yūzan Kaibara, who leads a competing project for another newspaper. Each story is both a lesson in ingredients and technique and a clash of outlooks between father and son.
The previous TV anime aired from 1988 to 1992 across 136 episodes, along with two films. The new series was announced on 19 September 2026 at ABEMA Anime Matsuri 2026, during a presentation celebrating Shin-Ei Animation's 50th anniversary. Kenichi Nishida directs, Takahiro Nagano handles series composition, Nozomi Kawashige designs the characters, and animation is by SynergySP and Vega Entertainment.
The main cast includes Yōhei Azakami (Shirō Yamaoka), Hitomi Sasaki (Yūko Kurita) and Akio Ōtsuka (Yūzan Kaibara), a role his late father Chikao Ōtsuka voiced in the 1988 version. The exact premiere date and broadcaster have not been announced.
