Overview
Tanuki to Kitsune (The Tanuki and the Fox) began as a Twitter web manga by Atamoto and was later published by Frontier Works under its Reluct Comics label from November 2016. A short ONA adaptation by Lesprit aired on YouTube in 2018, while this new TV version is produced by Akatsuki Media Studio.
OtaHub's take
The story follows the everyday life of a slightly spaced-out tanuki and a mischievous fox who likes to tease their friend. The two live together on a mountain, with a wolf, a bear, a rabbit and birds around them, which makes for gentle, low-key situations.
Verdict
The anime is directed by Tommy Hino with scripts by Rika Kihara, and Misaki Kuno and Nao Tōyama voice Tanuki and Kitsune. It starts October 4, 2026 in TV Tokyo's "Animori" block on Sunday mornings, suited to anyone after a light comedy with little drama.
