Overview
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a remake of Oblivion (2006), produced by Bethesda Game Studios together with Virtuos and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was shadow-dropped on 22 April 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, on the same day it was revealed. Players begin as a prisoner who witnesses the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim VII and is drawn into the fight against the Oblivion gates opening across Cyrodiil.
OtaHub's take
What makes it unusual is the method: Unreal Engine 5 handles all visuals, lighting and models, while the original game logic still runs underneath. As a result Cyrodiil looks far more modern, yet the quests, guilds and familiar freedom are almost unchanged. Levelling and combat have been tuned to feel friendlier to today's players, and the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions are included.
As OtaHub reported, on 11 August 2026 the game arrived on Nintendo Switch 2, the first time any version of Oblivion appeared on a Nintendo system. This version uses DLSS to upscale, is locked to 30 frames per second, and technical analyses note frame pacing still fluctuates in busy outdoor areas, in exchange for carrying a large open-world RPG in your hands.
Verdict
A good fit for those who loved Oblivion and want to return to Cyrodiil with new visuals, and for Skyrim players curious about its predecessor. Anyone expecting fully rebuilt mechanics should note that many of the original's dated quirks were deliberately kept. On Switch 2 it is worthwhile if portability matters more than smoothness, while PC or PS5 owners will get a steadier experience.
