Overview

Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai no Yoru) follows Aoko Aozaki, a high school girl who seems ordinary but is actually a Magician, though still only an apprentice. She lives with her housemate Alice Kuonji and strives to become a full-fledged Magician until she meets a boy, which begins the tale of a Witch. It is a single feature film produced by ufotable.

It is based on the visual novel by Kinoko Nasu and Type-Moon, the two names behind the wider Type-Moon world. The adaptation is directed by Masaru Takeuchi with Hikaru Kondou as chief director and original character designs by Hirokazu Koyama. A note on the release date: the broadcast schedule lists 29/1/2027, while AniList data gives a start date of 20/11/2026.

Verdict

It suits Type-Moon fans and anyone who likes atmospheric, character-focused fantasy. Newcomers do not need the company's other works to follow this premise, but should double-check the official premiere date because the two sources currently disagree.
