The latest CONTROL Resonant update brings a number of notable changes to combat and difficulty. It also comes with a major inconvenience: PC players have to redownload the entire game from scratch.
Why Does the CONTROL Resonant Update Force PC Players to Redownload?
Developer Remedy Entertainment recently released a major update aimed at improving the player experience. PC players, however, ran into an awkward problem.
According to the development team, a technical issue unintentionally triggered certain platform mechanisms on the PC version. This bug prevents the new update from overwriting the data already on players’ machines. To get the new features, PC players have no choice but to delete and redownload the whole game.
CONTROL Resonant’s Difficulty Gets Adjusted
The update — version 01.300.300 on PS5, 1.3.3.0 on Xbox Series X/S and 1.3.3 on PC — focuses on addressing several combat difficulty issues. Many enemies now have less health, and the ability to stagger most targets has been improved. The maximum caps for both Aberrant Strength and Ability Strength have also been raised.
Notably, the update adds an Assist Mode that lets players use sliders to adjust many difficulty-related factors to suit their playstyle.

Many Changes to Items and the Economy
The item system has also been adjusted to make progression smoother. Skill respec costs have been reduced significantly, while more Reset Items now appear in shops.
In particular, players receive 2 Reset Items right after defeating the first Resonant. Despite the many notable changes, having to redownload the whole game will certainly make PC players think twice before updating CONTROL Resonant.
Final Thoughts
Hotfix 1.3.3 clearly shows that Remedy is listening to the community in order to deliver the best possible experience. Even though PC players have to spend time redownloading all of the data, CONTROL Resonant’s compelling content and excellent close-quarters combat still make it well worth playing right now.
