Mii-chan and Miss Yamada anime adaptation announced for 2027
Mii-chan and Miss Yamada has officially confirmed an anime project for 2027.

The manga has been serialized on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket app since September 2024. It follows Yamada, a university student working part-time at a Shinjuku hostess club, and Mii-chan, her new coworker who can't read or write and is often clumsy and mocked by others, but whose relentless positivity slowly wins Yamada over. Seven Seas is publishing the English edition, with volume 1 arriving December 8. Kodansha has also confirmed the manga will conclude with its seventh volume, expected to ship in late summer 2026.

The announcement did not include a studio, director or any cast members. Flag Pictures is expected to share those production details in future updates.

The reveal has also sparked debate in Japan, with some readers concerned that Mii-chan, who cannot read or write and is frequently ridiculed by coworkers, risks reinforcing stereotypes about people with intellectual disabilities. The production side has denied any discriminatory intent and pledged to handle the source material carefully in the adaptation. You can find more on our latest news and Anime pages.
