Overview
MAO adapts Rumiko Takahashi's manga, is produced by Sunrise, runs 26 episodes and began airing on 4/4/2026. It is set in Taisho-era Japan in the early 1900s, where Mao, a mysterious onmyoji marked by a curse, has lived for nine hundred years. His world turns stranger when he meets Nanoka Kiba, a junior high schooler who seems to have come from the future.
OtaHub's take
Nanoka lost both parents in an accident as a small child, and when she returns to that fateful shopping arcade she is carried to another time. The series blends drama, mystery, romance and the supernatural. Teruo Satou directs, Yuuko Kakihara handles series composition, and the data lists no related entries.
Verdict
It suits viewers who like supernatural tales with a classic atmosphere, especially those familiar with Rumiko Takahashi's style. It starts from the beginning, so nothing needs to be watched first.
