Overview

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 2.5D fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It launched on 6 August 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), with a Japanese release a day later. It is the first Marvel game from the studio behind Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ, with art inspired by anime rather than Western comic linework.

OtaHub's take

The focus is 4v4 battles. Each player starts with one point character and one assist, then unlocks the remaining members by meeting conditions such as Wall Breaks. The whole team shares a single health bar called the Vital Gauge. The roster has 20 characters in five teams, Fighting Avengers, Unbreakable X-Men, The Amazing Guardians, Knights of Doom and Samurai Outriders, plus one unlockable boss character. Kieron Gillen wrote the story mode.

According to OtaHub's coverage, Arc System Works revealed Phoenix Cyclops at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 as the first DLC character of four planned for Year 1, due in autumn 2026 and voiced by Ray Chase. The version is inspired by the Phoenix Five from Avengers vs. X-Men. His full move list and exact release date have not been announced. The game also teamed up with Insomniac: Wolverine's Battle Reborn set is free from 1 September.

Verdict

Tōkon suits fighting-game players who enjoy layered team systems and anime-styled Marvel visuals. Players who only know one-on-one fighters will need time to learn the assist and character-swap mechanics.
