Phoenix Cyclops is the first additional character in the Year 1 plan for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Arc System Works announced the character at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 and plans to release him in fall 2026. This is not simply Cyclops in an alternate costume: the version is inspired by the Phoenix Five from the Avengers vs. X-Men comics and combines Optic Blast with the power of the Phoenix Force.

What has been confirmed?
- Character: Scott Summers/Cyclops in a design inspired by the Phoenix Five.
- Voice: Ray Chase, who also voices Cyclops in X-Men ’97 and Marvel Rivals.
- Timing: fall 2026; no specific date announced.
- Content pack: the first additional character among the four Year 1 fighters.
- Gameplay: Optic Blast, close-range skills and Phoenix Force power; the full move set has not been shown.
What is the Phoenix Five?
In the Avengers vs. X-Men comic event, the Phoenix Force is split among five mutants: Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Colossus and Magik. The cosmic energy gives them power far beyond their normal state, but it also makes conflicts over power and control increasingly serious. Cyclops becomes the central face of that storyline.
Choosing Phoenix Cyclops over the classic version lets Arc System Works keep Scott Summers’ signature moves while adding fire effects and a larger attack scale. However, the studio has only hinted at how the Phoenix Force is brought into combat; stats, team roles and unique mechanics still need to wait for gameplay video.
How does this character fit the 4-on-4 system?
MARVEL Tōkon is built around teams of four characters, but players do not need to control four completely separate sets of commands. Team members can join in to assist, extend combos or apply pressure from another position. With his natural long-range attacks, Cyclops has the potential to control space and help teammates reach the opponent, while the Phoenix Force could add area damage or powered-up states. This is analysis based on the character’s traits, not a confirmation of the final move set.
Other content announced at Comic-Con
Arc System Works also introduced an opening movie made by studio Sanzigen. The clip is styled after early-2000s anime openings and uses vocals by Keiko Terada and mayu. The game also collaborates with Insomniac Games: Wolverine’s Battle Reborn set is offered free to MARVEL Tōkon players from September 1, while Wolverine’s Tōkon outfit can be unlocked in the game Marvel’s Wolverine.
Should you buy the Year 1 pass right away?
If you are interested specifically in Phoenix Cyclops, it is best to wait for the release date, gameplay video and retail price. The announcement so far only confirms the four-character plan and does not say what the full DLC lineup is or how each wave will be scheduled. Players who prioritize competitive play should also see how the character interacts with the assist system before deciding.
