Marvel’s Wolverine, the action blockbuster from Insomniac Games — the studio behind the Marvel’s Spider-Man series — launched worldwide on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. It is the first time Logan stars in a large-scale AAA game, with brutal melee combat built around Adamantium claws and his legendary healing factor.
77 on Metacritic — lowest of Insomniac’s superhero games
On Metacritic, Marvel’s Wolverine scores 77/100 across 121 reviews (“generally favorable”). It is the lowest score any Insomniac superhero game has earned since the studio began working with Sony on Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018, well below Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (90). On OpenCritic the game sits around 79, with only about 75% of outlets recommending it.
Combat praised, linear structure criticized
Most reviews praise the combat: fast, savage slashing and an “unstoppable” Wolverine feel captured better than in any previous film or game. Critics fault the overly linear level structure, story pacing and limited freedom compared with the large open worlds of the earlier Spider-Man games.
Still selling well despite mixed reviews
Although scores fell short of expectations, data from Alinea Analytics shows Marvel’s Wolverine remains one of the best-selling PS5 games of 2026, ahead of many other PS5 blockbusters released this year.
