Overview

Marvel's Wolverine is a third-person action game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, released exclusively on PlayStation 5 on 15 September 2026. Announced in September 2021, it tells a standalone Logan story: missions with Team X against Bolivar Trask's facilities gradually pull him back toward memories and relationships he would rather bury, on a journey across several locations including the Lowtown district of Madripoor.

OtaHub's take

Unlike the Marvel's Spider-Man games, it does not build a large open city and instead focuses on areas designed specifically for combat, exploration and storytelling. The fighting rewards relentless aggression with claws, kicks and combo chains, while Logan's healing factor and Enhanced Senses let him follow trails, overhear conversations and find his way. The violence is explicit, but players can adjust the level of gore and switch on a language filter.

Familiar X-Men faces each have a defined role: Jean Grey is the moral counterweight, Mystique and Sabretooth are allies who carry conflicts from the Team X days, while The Hand, Lady Deathstrike and the cyborg mercenaries known as the Reavers are the direct threats. Insomniac does not adapt any single comic arc and builds its own interpretation instead. OtaHub's review roundup notes that critics praised the combat but criticised the fairly linear level structure.

Verdict

A good fit for players who want a linear, fast and brutal action game true to Wolverine, playable on its own with no knowledge of Insomniac's Spider-Man story. Anyone hoping for a large open world to roam freely like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 should adjust expectations, because the focus here is on carefully staged close-quarters fights.
