Overview
Sentenced to Be a Hero (Yuusha Kei ni Shosu: Choubatsu Yuusha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku) is a 12-episode TV anime from Studio KAI that began airing on 3/1/2026 and adapts the light novel by Rocket Shoukai, with original illustrations by Hitomi Shizuki. In this world, heroism is a punishment. Xylo Forbartz, a condemned goddess killer, fights hordes of monsters in Penal Hero Unit 9004, and death only leads to a cycle of resurrection and more combat. His meeting with a mysterious goddess sparks a rebellion against those chains. Hiroyuki Takashima directs. A second season is listed as the follow-up.
Verdict
A good fit for viewers who like dark action fantasy with dramatic weight and an unusual setting. This is the first season, so you can start from episode one with no preparation.
