Overview
Skip and Loafer is an anime adaptation of Misaki Takamatsu's manga, serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon since 2018. Mitsumi Iwakura, a bright student from the countryside, moves to Tokyo for high school determined to make something of herself, and on day one she meets classmate Sousuke Shima, who becomes her first friend in the city.
OtaHub's take
Season 1 was produced by P.A.Works and aired from April to June 2023 over 12 episodes. Rather than pushing romance into loud drama, it focuses on the small frictions of growing up: making new friends, being out of step with city norms, trying out a club and learning to trust yourself.
Kotomi Deai directed and co-wrote the series, with music by Takatsugu Wakabayashi. The unhurried pacing, soft palette and respectful eye on both the lead and the supporting cast give it a distinct place among school-life anime, and the manga won the 47th Kodansha Manga Award.
The official site has released a Season 2 teaser, scheduled for April 2027. According to OtaHub's coverage, Kotomi Deai and Yoko Yonaiyama continue on scripts, Manami Umeshita returns for character design, and Tomoyo Kurosawa and Akinori Egoshi again voice Mitsumi and Sousuke. Verdict: a good fit for anyone who wants a gentle slice-of-life with real substance.
