Overview
The Sinking City 2 is the sequel to the 2019 Lovecraftian detective game, both developed and published by Frogwares, a studio based in Kyiv, Ukraine. It launched on 18 August 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is set in the 1920s in the flooded alleys of Arkham, where players confront an ancient deity and weigh a single life against an entire city.
OtaHub's take
The biggest change is the genre. The first game leaned on slow-paced investigation and deduction, while the sequel moves to classic Resident Evil-style survival horror: tense exploration, puzzles tied to the environment, scarce ammunition and monsters that must be avoided because they cannot be killed. It is a risky step for a franchise with a clear identity.
The protagonist is new as well. Detective Charles Reed gives way to Calvin Rafferty, who is dragged into events when a failed dream-invasion ritual leaves his partner Faye in a supernatural coma. Rafferty must cross the flooded city to find a way to save her. Before launch, Frogwares released a 12-minute gameplay video and a demo covering the game's opening.
Verdict
Suited to players who like tense survival horror with limited resources and a Lovecraftian atmosphere. Those who loved the first game for its investigation should think twice, since the focus has shifted considerably.
