What is new in the remake?

Nintendo describes it as a version "built from the ground up" for Switch 2, released for the 40th anniversary of the original Zelda game. In its October 14 trailer article and on the pre-order page, the company lists these main changes.

  • Completely overhauled visuals, with a full orchestral soundtrack.
  • Voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue, so characters have more to say than in the original.
  • Reworked camera and movement. Nintendo's UK page also mentions a new dash ability, jumping across gaps with a single button, befriending a horse to ride later and quickly switching weapons and items.
  • Playing the ocarina with the Switch 2 microphone. You can hum a melody Link has learned, or play one on a real instrument, and the microphone will recognize the song. Playing with buttons still works.
  • Hall of Fallen Heroes, where statues of defeated monsters stand. You go there to learn about them or fight them again.
  • ZELDA NOTES in the Nintendo Switch app: view achievements, try to find locations from photos and play the ocarina on your phone. It needs a Nintendo Account and an internet connection, but not Nintendo Switch Online.

What is the story of Ocarina of Time?

Ocarina of Time first launched on the Nintendo 64, and Nintendo calls this version a good entry point for newcomers. In the company's words, the evil Ganondorf wants to break into the Sacred Realm and seize the Triforce, three golden triangles representing wisdom, power and courage, and rule the world. Link, a boy, and the fairy Navi enter dungeons, solve puzzles and collect weapons, then travel across two time periods to save the kingdom of Hyrule from darkness and become the "Hero of Time". The ocarina is an instrument in the game: many melodies can open new paths or turn day into night.

What does it cost and what comes with it?

The game is only on Switch 2, playable in TV, tabletop and handheld modes, for one player. On the US store, the Standard digital version costs $59.99 and is open for pre-order. The estimated size is about 27 GB, and Nintendo notes that this number is not final. The game is rated ESRB Everyone 10+ and PEGI 12.

There are also companion products. Two new amiibo, Young Link and Young Zelda, cost $24.99 each, arrive in 2027 and unlock "masks" in the game. The Electric OCARINA OF TIME accessory costs $49.99 and arrives on the same day, November 5. It is an electronic toy with buttons, cannot be blown into, has Free Play and Auto-Play modes with 12 songs from the game, and works with the game's sound recognition. Nintendo also promotes a special edition Switch 2 system arriving November 5, but Nintendo has not given its name or price.

What should players in Vietnam know?

The language list on Nintendo's US page includes Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Dutch, Russian, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Portuguese (Brazil) and Polish, with no Vietnamese. Nintendo's pages do not give pricing or how to buy in Vietnam, so the prices in this piece are US store prices. They also do not give an unlock time or preload date. Players who own a Switch 2 and want to play on day one should watch the store page for their region.
