Gears of War: E-Day officially launches on October 6, 2026, taking players back to Emergence Day, the event that started the war between humanity and the Locust. Premium Edition owners can play early from October 1, while Xbox Game Pass players get the full game on the global release date.
Gears of War: E-Day is the latest game in the Gears of War franchise and an important prequel for the series. Rather than continuing the story after the previous games, The Coalition takes players back to Emergence Day, when the Locust first emerged and plunged humanity into a brutal fight for survival.
According to Xbox, Gears of War: E-Day is set 14 years before the first Gears of War and focuses on two familiar characters, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. This is the period that shaped the relationship between the two characters, as well as the first events leading to the war with the Locust.

As for the release timing, Gears of War: E-Day officially unlocks on October 6, 2026. Xbox confirmed the global release time is 8:00 AM Pacific Time (PT), or 15:00 UTC. For players in Vietnam, that’s 10:00 PM on October 6.
Alongside the official release, players who buy the Premium Edition get early access. Early Access starts at 8:00 AM PT on October 1, or around 10:00 PM on October 1 in Vietnam. That lets Premium Edition buyers play the campaign up to 5 days before the global launch.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members can play Gears of War: E-Day from the official release date of October 6. The game is also on the list of day-one launches on Game Pass.
Xbox opened pre-installs on September 29, letting players download the game ahead of time so they’re ready for Emergence Day when servers open. Pre-loading began at 8:00 AM PT, or 15:00 UTC.
In terms of gameplay, Gears of War: E-Day keeps the series’ signature cover-based combat. However, The Coalition says the game is built on Unreal Engine 5 and adds changes to movement and mobility to make combat more flexible.

Familiar weapons return as well, alongside new weapons designed for close-range fights. The Coalition also wants to bring horror back to the forefront in E-Day, as players face familiar enemies along with many new creatures and threats.
Gears of War: E-Day also supports online co-op for the campaign with friends, alongside other multiplayer modes. On console, the game supports two-player split-screen, while online features require a Game Pass plan that includes multiplayer.

With development complete, Gears of War: E-Day is now just waiting for its official launch. Players can pre-install from September 29, play early from October 1 with the Premium Edition, or wait until October 6 to join Emergence Day with the community.
