Hardware: Xbox Series X25 25th Anniversary
Microsoft suddenly opened the show with an announcement Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition, a special edition celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Xbox brand from 2001 to 2026. The device has a nostalgic transparent shell design inspired by the original Xbox, combined with the signature "OG Green" green color tone that longtime fans will recognize immediately.
Ministry Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition is also sold bundled or separately with the same design language. Both products launch in November 2026 in limited quantities in select markets. This is the first time Xbox has launched a large-scale special edition of hardware since the Xbox One X, and initial predictions suggest that the nostalgic appeal of the transparent design will cause the console to sell out quickly.
Gears of War: E-Day
This is the most awaited game in the entire show. Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel to the legendary series, set on E-Day, the day the Locust first appeared on the surface of planet Sera and massacred humanity. Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago are not yet the seasoned warriors that players are familiar with; they are just rookies facing an unprecedented threat.
The Coalition developed the game on Unreal Engine 5 and what the trailer shows far exceeds all expectations in terms of environmental detail. Microsoft confirms this is Exclusive forever on Xbox Series X|S and PC, not timed exclusive like many previous titles. Game released today October 6, 2026 and available on Game Pass from day one.
Fable
Playground Games, the studio famous for Forza Horizon, has finally shown off its real gameplay Fable. This reboot doesn't attempt to recreate Fable 1 or Fable 2, but rather builds an entirely new world of Albion with a female protagonist and a completely redesigned moral system. The series' signature humor remains: quirky NPCs, witty dialogue, and a world that reacts to the player's choices.
After years of silence to the point where the community almost lost faith, Fable actually looks ready. Game released today February 23, 2027 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, available on Game Pass from day one.
Personas 6
Atlus broke with tradition by choosing the Xbox Showcase for the announcement Personas 6. This is the first time an official Persona game has been announced simultaneously on multiple platforms from the start, including Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, instead of being a PlayStation exclusive for many years before porting. This decision reflects the fact that Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal achieved extremely good sales on Xbox, convincing Atlus to change its distribution strategy.
The trailer reveals a new setting with a prominent musical theme and sharper character designs than ever before. Details about gameplay and storyline are yet to be revealed, but its appearance at the Xbox Showcase was enough to stir up the Persona community. The game is expected to launch in 2027.
Valor Mortis, Spyro and Other Notable Titles
Valor Mortis was the biggest surprise at the show. A first-person soullike action game set during the Napoleonic era, featuring French actor Vincent Cassel voicing Napoleon Bonaparte himself. The gothic visual style combined with gameplay requiring high reflexes looks very promising. The game was announced for September 24, 2026 with day-one Game Pass availability, but has since been delayed to October 13, 2026 to avoid clashing with other big releases.
Spyro: A Realm Beyond confirms the return of the legendary purple dragon after many years of absence. The cinematic trailer is nearly 3 minutes long with impressive image quality, a vast world and music that carries the true spirit of the original Spyro. Expected release Spring 2027. Minecraft Dungeons 2 Developed by Mojang, following the success of the first part with a significantly expanded loot and dungeon system, released September 29, 2026.
Other titles worth watching: Clockwork Revolution from inXile Entertainment comes Steampunk RPG confirmed to be a permanent Xbox exclusive; Crazy Taxi: World Tour Sega's revival of the classic franchise with a much larger scale than the original, expected 2027; Vivarium is an adventure life-sim game inspired by cel-shaded anime with a completely different style from the Xbox catalog; and JOIN US, a multiplayer-focused cult survival game, on Game Pass starting March 2027.
Overall Comment
Xbox Games Showcase 2026 is one of Microsoft's most impressive events in recent years. The confirmation Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are exclusive forever, not a timed exclusive, is a clear signal that Xbox is seriously investing in its own ecosystem rather than simply a game distribution platform.
2026 is the year Xbox truly returns: anniversary hardware has strong nostalgic appeal, first-party exclusives are in place, and Game Pass continues to expand with AAA titles from day one. This is a very different picture compared to Xbox two years ago. OtaHub Editorial
However, the majority of the biggest titles are still aimed at 2027, meaning that by the end of 2026 Xbox is placing almost all its bets on Gears of War: E-Day. If The Coalition truly delivers a game that lives up to expectations, this will be Xbox's most memorable holiday season since 2018. As for Persona 6, its appearance at Xbox Showcase is a strong indication that the exclusivity lines between consoles are blurring, and players on all platforms will benefit from this.
