Overview
Order of the Sinking Star is the new project from Jonathan Blow and studio Thekla, the creators of Braid (2008) and The Witness (2016). It is the studio's first large-scale game since The Witness nearly a decade ago. According to the Steam page, the game contains over 1,000 interconnected, hand-crafted puzzles set in a realm of magic and enigma. It is scheduled to launch on 8 October 2026.
OtaHub's take
The structure revolves around four separate worlds, each with its own mechanics, characters and story before they collide. Players take control of a queen, a thief, a warrior, a mage and even a talking boat, each with abilities suited to exploration and puzzle solving. Mechanics are introduced gradually over the journey rather than all at once.
According to publisher Arc Games, players can explore at their own pace, return to completed worlds or retry unfinished puzzles, and the whole journey can run to hundreds of hours. The PlayStation 5 version was confirmed on the PlayStation Blog on 21 July, launching on the same day as the PC version on Steam and the Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Verdict
Aimed at players who enjoy puzzles built on patient observation and deduction rather than reflexes, and who want a project where each challenge is individually crafted. The game has not launched yet, so there are no official reviews.
