Overview
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensura) adapts Fuse's light novel, illustrated by Mitz Vah and originally a web novel, along with the manga drawn by Taiki Kawakami. Satoru Mikami, a 37-year-old office worker, is stabbed to death and reborn in another world as a slime. After befriending the Storm Dragon Veldora and taking the name Rimuru, he gradually wins over monster races and lays the foundation for a new nation.
OtaHub's take
Studio 8bit produced the 24-episode first season, which began airing in October 2018 under director Yasuhito Kikuchi. The franchise then grew with a second season in 2021, a third in 2024, the spin-off series The Slime Diaries and the film Scarlet Bond. What sets Tensura apart is its focus on nation building, diplomacy and politics between factions, rather than only the fights of an unbeatable protagonist.
Parts 1 and 2 of season 4 aired from April to September 2026 across 24 episodes, directed by Naokatsu Tsuda with series composition by Hitomi Ogawa. On 25 September 2026 the official website announced the 2027 schedule: the spin-off Clayman's Revenge airs from April, adapting Wataru Kajika's manga, directed by Kentaro Sugimoto with Takehito Koyasu returning as Clayman; season 4 then returns with its third cour from July. Eight Bit handles both projects.
Verdict
Tensura suits fans of light-hearted isekai rich in world building and faction management. Newcomers should watch the main series at least up to the conflict with Clayman before starting the spin-off. For viewers who have kept up through season 4 part 2, 2027 brings two dates worth waiting for: Clayman's Revenge in April and the third cour in July, both handled by the same studio.
