Shift Up announced Stellar Blade: Blood Rain at Summer Game Fest 2026. New protagonist Evie fights bare-fisted with a reverse-grip blade, and the setting shifts to a cyberpunk city instead of the first game's post-apocalyptic world. The game is still in early development, with no official release date yet.

After months of teasing, Shift Up has officially unveiled Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, the sequel to its acclaimed 2024 action title, at Summer Game Fest 2026 this past June, alongside a first reveal trailer.

Evie, a Brand-New Protagonist Instead of EVE

The biggest surprise is that Blood Rain doesn't continue following EVE. Instead, it introduces an entirely new lead character named Evie. Where EVE was defined by her graceful swordplay, Evie leans into brutal bare-fisted combat, paired with a reverse-grip blade that hints at a completely new hybrid combat system. Players can chain rapid combos on the ground and in the air, weaving in stylish parries, dodges, and cross-ups.

Leaving the Post-Apocalypse Behind for a Cyberpunk City

In terms of setting, Blood Rain moves away from the familiar post-apocalyptic wasteland of the first game and shifts to a futuristic, cyberpunk-soaked city. The trailer shows Evie tracking an elusive terrorist through the city, interspersed with frenetic combat sequences and body-horror elements that give the sequel a darker, tenser atmosphere than the original.

Still in Early Development

In a March 2026 interview ahead of the official announcement, director Kim Hyung-Tae said the game's art direction was nearly finalized, but the second half of the story and the depth of the combat system still needed more time. He admitted the story was the weakest part of the original Stellar Blade due to a lack of development time, and said the team is committed to improving that for the sequel.

Platforms and Release Date Still Unconfirmed

Shift Up has not confirmed official launch platforms. In an interview with IGN, Kim Hyung-Tae said it's still too early to lock in a platform lineup, but he teased the possibility of a multiplatform release, noting the team wants the game to reach as wide an audience as possible. According to investor reports from May 2025, the studio was targeting a release before 2027, though at the time of the reveal the game was still described as being in early development.

With the success of the original and a bold new direction, Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is now one of the most closely watched projects in the Asian action RPG community, even as fans continue to wonder about EVE's fate after the first game's controversial ending.
