What does Dark Arisen add to Dragon’s Dogma 2?
The expansion takes players to Norgan, an abandoned region in the north. There the Arisen joins Eir to investigate the undying Fallen Dragon. The developers have said the snow-capped mountains visible from Vernworth, the first area of the base game, inspired the new region.
Beyond the new land, the expansion adds more than 25 hours of content, 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges that reward rare gear once held by past Arisen, a Relic system for crafting weapons with unique class skills, a new loot system called Spoils, and extra character creation options such as hairstyles and tattoos. Norgan also has its own weather, including blizzards and thick fog, and creatures drawn to certain magical items.

How does the Switch 2 version run?
This is the first time Dragon’s Dogma 2 appears on the Switch 2. According to Capcom’s producer, the game targets 30 fps in both handheld and TV modes. Players can turn on a 60 fps mode that uses FSR Frame Generation, but because it builds frames from a 30 fps base it can cause visual errors and add input lag. Capcom says it has kept the lag low.
The download is about 49.6 GB according to Nintendo, a notable chunk of the Switch 2’s 256 GB storage. Switch 2 players can only buy the bundle, with no standalone expansion.
OtaHub’s take
For anyone who already owns Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PS5, Xbox or PC, $29.99 for 25+ hours is fair if you have finished the base game. The Lost Rites challenges are the most interesting part: repeatable tasks with rewards suit players who like testing builds.
For anyone who has not bought the game yet, the $49.99 bundle is a cheaper way in than buying each part separately. What to wait for are review scores: none were out when this was published, and real-world performance on the Switch 2 is still a question mark.
