Overview
Code Geass: Hoshi Oi no Aspal, known in English as Star Chaser Aspal, is a new animated project in the Code Geass franchise, announced at the series' 20th anniversary event. Sunrise is credited for the original work, planning and animation production. AniList lists a 2027 release, while the official site so far carries only a visual and the first teaser, noting that the project is in production.
OtaHub's take
The core staff is confirmed: Kazuya Nomura (Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie, Moriarty the Patriot) directs, Mado Nozaki (Hello World) handles series composition, Rolua designs the characters and Yoshi. designs the Agalmata. The term Agalmata likely refers to the work's own mechanical units, but Sunrise has not explained their role or any link to the familiar Knightmare Frames.
The teaser shows the elements that define Code Geass, such as war, political power and humanoid machines, but centers on a new core cast rather than Lelouch. The setting, timeline and relationship to Lelouch of the Rebellion, Akito the Exiled or Rozé of the Recapture have not been announced. The voice cast, release format and episode count are also still open.
Verdict
For Code Geass fans following the franchise's expansion after Rozé of the Recapture, and for newcomers too, since this is an entirely new story. It is best to wait for more official information from Sunrise before setting firm expectations about its content. In the meantime, rewatching Lelouch of the Rebellion remains the best way to understand why the franchise is remembered.
