Overview
Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World with Garbage Balancing adapts Hamuo's light novel, illustrated by Mo. The anime is produced by Yokohama Animation Lab and directed by Makoto Tamagawa. Season 1 aired 12 episodes from 10 January to 28 March 2026, and Season 2 followed with 13 episodes from 4 July to 26 September 2026 on TOKYO MX, MBS, BS Nittele and AT-X.
OtaHub's take
The lead is Kenichi Yamada, a 35-year-old gamer tired of easy games, who picks Hell Mode difficulty and the Summoner class, then is pulled into the game world and reborn as Allen, the son of a serf family. His strength comes from grinding: gathering resources, leveling his summons and testing party setups, so the journey feels like a long campaign rather than an isekai where the hero is unbeatable from the start.
On 26 September 2026 the official site confirmed that Season 3 is in production, adapting the S-Rank Dungeon Conquest arc, with a visual of Allen, Meruru and the giant golem Tam-Tam. The air date, episode count and staff have not been announced. OtaHub's view is that the arc will only convince if it keeps the sense of progress that comes at a cost, with tactics and skill limits shown clearly.
Verdict
A good fit for viewers who prefer system-driven isekai, grinding and party planning over powers handed out for free. Anyone waiting for Season 3 should refresh their memory of Allen's summoning mechanics and the relationships set up across the first two seasons. Viewers who dislike slow pacing and long stretches explaining mechanics may find the series a little dry.
