Overview
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the third entry in CD Projekt Red's RPG trilogy based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, released on 19 May 2015 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. You play Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter for hire, searching for Ciri, his adopted daughter, who is being pursued by the spectral riders of the Wild Hunt. The journey spans the war-ravaged swamps of Velen, the city of Novigrad and the Skellige Isles.
OtaHub's take
What made the game's name is the quality of its quests. Even side quests have their own stories, morally murky choices and consequences that surface later. Monster contracts make Geralt investigate tracks and prepare the right potions and oils before a fight, while the card game Gwent becomes a pastime of its own. Two expansions, Hearts of Stone (2015) and Blood and Wine (2016), the latter set in Toussaint, add dozens of hours.
On 29 September 2026 CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, made with Yigsoft and free for existing owners. It reworks the skill tree, combat, horse riding and traversal, adds path tracing on PC, cross-platform mod support through mod.io and a native Nintendo Switch 2 version. As OtaHub's review notes, some scenes with the new lighting sparked debate for looking less natural than the original. A third expansion, Songs of the Past, developed with Fool's Theory, is planned for 2027.
Verdict
This remains the best entry point into the world of The Witcher, even without playing the first two games. Fans of story-heavy RPGs and large open worlds have hundreds of hours to explore, and returning players now have a reason to come back thanks to the free Remastered upgrade.
