"Season 2" is the Japanese numbering. Crunchyroll once grouped all 170 earlier episodes into one season, so your streaming page may label things differently.

Where to watch: Crunchyroll for subtitles outside Japan. The Japanese broadcast table and platform list are on the official anime site.

For Vietnam, Crunchyroll's Southeast Asia fall lineup lists Black Clover Season 2 on October 3 and Vietnamese subtitles for the lineup as a whole. A Vietnamese dub or another local licensee has not been announced. On dubs, Crunchyroll India lists English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, but the English dub cast and date remain unannounced.

Before the premiere, TV Tokyo ran lead-in shows: a two-part Season 1 digest, a countdown special on September 15 and a training-themed special on September 22. On premiere day, voice actors Gakuto Kajiwara, Nobunaga Shimazaki and Kana Yuki host a YouTube live at 21:45 JST (19:45 in Vietnam), then join TV Tokyo's "WORLD CONNECT COUNTDOWN" at 22:55 JST, linking Tokyo, New York, London and São Paulo.

What does Season 2 pick up?

Crunchyroll describes a desperate raid by the Magic Knights on the Spade Kingdom to rescue their captains from the Dark Triad. The official site calls it the Spade Kingdom Raid arc.

Episode 1 is titled "Page 171: Kaisen" (the opening of battle). The series numbers episodes as "Pages", so Season 2 continues from 171. The official synopsis: the Magic Knights prepare to retrieve Yami and the others who were taken; Asta and Liebe, having finished the "Friendship Trial", train to master Devil Union; Yuno trains to beat Zenon, who once defeated him, and to save Vangeance; in the Spade Kingdom, the scholar Morris, driven out of the Diamond Kingdom, prepares to open the Gate of the Underworld.

At the Anime Expo screening, Anime News Network reported that the premiere includes the captains infiltrating the Spade castle, a scene not in the manga, plus Asta training Devil Union with Nacht. That is one outlet's description, not a statement from the production team.

What should you watch before Season 2?

Season 1 ran 170 episodes on TV Tokyo from October 3, 2017 to March 30, 2021 and stopped just as the anime was catching up to the manga. Season 2 follows directly from that last episode, so newcomers need to start at episode 1. For returning fans, the team prepared a 10-minute Season 1 recap, the "Road to 2nd Season" series (from July 16) and a recap of episodes 158 to 170 on the official channel.

The film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King came out on June 16, 2023, runs 110 minutes and streamed on Netflix the same day. According to Wikipedia, it is set in the gap before the Heart Kingdom arc, so you do not need it to follow Season 2.

Who is making Season 2? Staff and changes from Season 1

The list below comes from the anime's staff page:

  • Original work: Yuki Tabata (Shueisha, Jump Comics)
  • Director: Ayataka Tanemura
  • Series composition: Keiichiro Ochi
  • Character design: Itsuko Takeda
  • Music: Minako Seki; sound director: Hajime Takakuwa
  • Art director: Yuki Maeda; color design: Aiko Shinohara; director of photography: Keisuke Nozawa; editing: Ayumu Takahashi
  • Animation production: Studio Pierrot

Tanemura is no stranger to the series. He directed episodes 153 to 170 of Season 1 (Anime News Network lists him as director, Wikipedia as chief director) and directed the 2023 film. At Anime Expo he said Tabata asked the team to make the battles extra cool. According to Wikipedia's infobox, series composition moves from Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and Kanichi Kato to Keiichiro Ochi, and photography and editing also change, while Pierrot, Itsuko Takeda and Minako Seki carry over. Wikipedia gives no source for each credit, so treat that comparison as a guide.

The Japanese voice cast

The official site lists 31 characters. Asta is voiced by Gakuto Kajiwara, Yuno by Nobunaga Shimazaki, Noelle Silva by Kana Yuki, Yami Sukehiro by Junichi Suwabe, Nacht Faust by Hiro Shimono and Liebe by Nobuhiko Okamoto.

  • Dark Triad: Dante Zogratis (Rikiya Koyama), Zenon Zogratis (Tatsuhisa Suzuki), Vanica Zogratis (Yui Ogura)
  • Black Bulls: Finral Roulacase (Jun Fukuyama), Magna Swing (Genki Muro), Luck Voltia (Ayumu Murase), Gauche Adlai (Satoshi Hino), Vanessa Enoteca (Nana Mizuki), Charmy Pappitson (Kiyono Yasuno), Gordon Agrippa (Kenichiro Matsuda), Grey (Minami Takahashi), Henry Legolant (Mitsuki Saiga), Zora Ideale (Hikaru Midorikawa), Secre Swallowtail (Ayane Sakura)
  • Others: Julius Novachrono (Toshiyuki Morikawa), Mereoleona Vermillion (Junko Minagawa), Mimosa Vermillion (Asuka Nishi), Nozel Silva (Kosuke Toriumi), Fuegoleon Vermillion (Katsuyuki Konishi), William Vangeance (Daisuke Ono), Charlotte Roselei (Yu Kobayashi), Jack the Ripper (Daisuke Namikawa), Rill Boismortier (Natsuki Hanae), Dorothy Unsworth (Mariya Ise), Kaiser Granbolka (Kenichiro Matsuda, who also plays Gordon)

Heart Kingdom characters such as Loropechika, Undine and Gaja appear on the character page, but no voice actors have been announced. In his message, Kajiwara says Asta is now "as muscular as Yami", and Ogura says Vanica genuinely enjoys fighting.

Opening and ending themes

The opening is "Kienai Riyuu" (消えない理由, "The Reason That Won't Disappear") by WANIMA, a three-piece band from Kumamoto, with lyrics and music by KENTA. It debuted in the main PV released on July 5, 2026 JST. The ending is "Yellow Brick Road" by ONE OR EIGHT, an eight-member group that debuted in August 2024, produced by NILD; the single is scheduled for October 7, 2026 on avex trax. The ending was announced on September 7.

The promotion: from Ikebukuro Station to a global countdown

The main visual arrived on July 2, 2026, with Asta in Devil Union alongside Yuno and Noelle. On July 13, character designer Itsuko Takeda released Asta's Zanma-form setting sheets. On September 28 the team added a pre-broadcast visual showing Asta facing the three Dark Triad members and a devil.

The same day, JR Ikebukuro Station's central passage was covered in pillar ads showing Asta, Yuno, Noelle, Yami and Nacht, each with a line about never giving up, under the tagline 「諦めないのが、君の魔法になる。」 ("Not giving up becomes your magic"). The campaign runs until October 4, and organizers ask visitors to stay safe and not ask station staff about the ads. Animehunch mentions only Ikebukuro, but the anime's own notice says Shibuya and Shinjuku stations also carry ads, with flags along Shibuya's Center-gai and a free "promo water" giveaway from September 29 to October 4.

Other tie-ins include a blood-donation collaboration with the Japanese Red Cross (September 26 to December 27, 2026, with 5,000 clear cards carrying a wallpaper code), a collaboration with the game Legend of Cabala from May 1, 2026, and a 10th-anniversary exhibition in Tokyo (March 14 to 29, 2026) and Osaka (April 25 to May 10, 2026).

Has Yuki Tabata's manga finished?

Yes. The manga ended on May 1, 2026 at chapter 392 in Jump GIGA, after moving there from Weekly Shonen Jump in 2024. The final volume, volume 38, came out on August 4, 2026 together with the official guidebook, which includes 15 new pages by Tabata. Shonen Jump News reported 24.5 million copies in circulation worldwide as of April 2026. More in OtaHub's pieces on the final volume and the guidebook.

What has not been announced

  • The total episode count, number of cours and end date. The 26-episode leak (13 in 2026, 13 in 2027) comes from a single X account and is unconfirmed.
  • The chapter range Season 2 adapts.
  • The English dub cast and date, and any Vietnamese dub.
  • A separate Crunchyroll release time for Southeast Asia.
  • Voice actors for the Heart Kingdom characters.

OtaHub's take

The most telling number is not in any press release. Season 1 adapted roughly 270 chapters in 170 episodes, under 1.6 chapters per episode. The manga ended at chapter 392, so about 122 chapters remain. If the 26-episode leak is true, the pace would be nearly three times faster, around 4 to 5 chapters per episode. That is OtaHub's arithmetic from Animehunch's figures, not information from the team.

It explains why Tanemura keeping the director's chair matters. He directed the last 18 episodes of Season 1 and the film, so he already knows how this crew stages a fight. But the series composition has changed, and pacing will decide how this season lands. If Season 1 felt slow to you, watch the first two or three episodes to see whether the team goes fast or goes deep. OtaHub will update the episode count and adaptation range as soon as they are announced.
