Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold will launch on February 23, 2027. The expansion takes players to the icebound Fourth, adds two combat jobs and raises the level cap from 100 to 110.

Release schedule and early access requirements

Evercold is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Windows, Mac and Steam. Pre-orders open on November 4, 2026, ahead of the expansion’s February launch.

Eligible pre-orders include early access, scheduled to begin around 1:00 a.m. PST on February 19, 2027, or 4:00 p.m. that day in Vietnam. Accessing Evercold content during this period requires a registered copy of Dawntrail and completion of the required quests. Pre-ordering does not bypass story progression requirements.

Evercold is an expansion for owners of the full version of Final Fantasy XIV, rather than a standalone game. A subscription is still required to play.

A journey into the icebound Fourth

With the threat of the Solstice looming, the Warrior of Light is summoned to the Fourth. Its new areas are found aboard enormous airships called Realmships, giving the adventure a setting beyond a collection of new place names.

The four Realmships introduced are Sessrymnir of Earth, Skiðblaðnir of Wind, Naglfar of Water and Hringhorni of Fire. The expansion also adds the cities of Fargarth and Hjartadunur. After a particular point in the main scenario, players can choose the order in which they tackle certain areas rather than always following a fixed route.

Bastion and Zephyr use Evolved Mode

Bastion is a tank wielding the massive Skyltborg shield, which incorporates aetherial artillery. Zephyr is a physical ranged damage job combining crossbow shots with support from an avian familiar. They provide contrasting roles, with one holding the front line and the other attacking from a distance.

The new battle system offers Reborn Mode and Evolved Mode. Reborn builds on the current combat system, while Evolved is designed to place greater emphasis on each job’s identity. Bastion and Zephyr can only be played in Evolved Mode. Neither mode applies to limited jobs.

Evercold also introduces a seasonal framework for earning rewards and increasing item level. Certain areas will automatically adjust applicable content to character level, supporting parties with players from different level ranges.

Some system updates, including the new battle system, PvP, Duty Support and housing updates, do not require purchasing Evercold. Content may arrive through later patches, so the announced features should not all be expected immediately at launch.
