The Honkai: Star Rail x Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] collaboration event, titled “Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail”, began on July 11, 2025, with Saber and Archer as its two playable characters.

What is Fate/stay night, and why is this crossover special?

Fate/stay night is the original visual novel from Type-Moon, built around the secret “Holy Grail War,” in which magi summon legendary heroes, known as Servants, to fight for a grail that can grant a wish. Unlimited Blade Works is one of the three main routes of the visual novel and focuses on Archer (EMIYA), a mysterious Servant who can copy any weapon he has ever held. Because Fate/stay night is a visual novel and anime franchise with an extremely loyal fan base that rarely collaborates with other games, HoYoverse bringing in both Saber and Archer for Honkai: Star Rail is considered one of the game’s most notable crossovers of the year.

Saber (Artoria Pendragon)

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works
The Honkai: Star Rail x Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] crossover brings Saber and Archer, original designs by Takashi Takeuchi, into the HoYoverse.

Saber is a limited 5-star character on the Path of Destruction with the Wind element, obtained through the Event Warp. Her Ultimate is likely inspired by the famous Excalibur.

Archer (EMIYA)

Archer is a 5-star character on the Path of The Hunt with the Quantum element, and he is given free to players who log in during the event.

Design and duration

The original concept designs for both Saber and Archer in Honkai: Star Rail were created by artist Takashi Takeuchi. The Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works collaboration banner stays open for an extended period.

OtaHub’s take

What sets this crossover apart from most collaboration events in gacha games, in OtaHub’s view, is that both characters keep the core concept of the source material instead of just borrowing the name. Giving Archer, a Servant famous for copying and amplifying weapons, the Quantum element (which leans toward amplifying area damage) in Star Rail’s combat system suggests the design team tried to translate the spirit of the character into gameplay mechanics, rather than just putting a skin on an existing set of stats. It is also a signal for Type-Moon fans: if the first crossover is well received, there is good reason to expect the game to collaborate on other Fate routes as well.

How the event works

According to AniTrendz, the event was announced on 3 May 2025 and belongs to Version 3.6. Kinoko Nasu, the original author of Fate, supervises the story. Per BlueStacks, Penacony is recreated as a Holy Grail War battlefield, and the event opened at 12:00 server time on 11 July 2025, running through the end of Version 3.6.

During the event, players summon Servants, use Command Seals and trigger Noble Phantasms, mechanics taken straight from Fate, as described by AniTrendz. The collaboration banner uses its own pity counter, separate from regular character event banners, so pulls accumulated on another banner do not carry over.

Archer is free for anyone who logs in during the event, while Saber requires Star Rail Special Passes on the limited collaboration banner.
