Overview
PUBG: Battlegrounds, formerly PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, is a survival shooter built on Brendan Greene's battle royale concept, developed and published by a KRAFTON studio. It entered Steam early access in March 2017, launched in full on PC on 21 December 2017, and later arrived on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In January 2022 PUBG went free-to-play, keeping its core gameplay while changing how it brings in new players.
OtaHub's take
Every match begins with a parachute drop onto a large map with empty hands. Players have to search buildings for weapons, armour and healing items while constantly moving into a safe zone that keeps shrinking. Bullets have drop, vehicles serve as both transport and cover, and the sound of footsteps often decides who fires first. The mix of luck in looting and tactics in positioning makes every match play out differently.
In Vietnam, PUBG is tied to a long-standing community of streamers and pro players and to the PUBG Vietnam Series. In September 2026, as OtaHub's articles report, KRAFTON permanently banned Vietnamese players Himass and TanVuu after a dispute over using outside information at the PUBG Asia Stars 2026 showmatch, triggering a strong backlash among Vietnamese gamers, although the game and the domestic league remain active.
Verdict
Suited to players who enjoy slower, tactical shooting and can handle tense looting minutes in exchange for the thrill of surviving to the final circle. Newcomers should start in squad mode with friends, since the game demands far more patience and map knowledge than fast-paced shooters do. The free-to-play model means trying it costs almost nothing.
