Overview
The Isle is a multiplayer survival game developed and published by Afterthought LLC, which entered Steam Early Access on 1 December 2015. Players take the role of a dinosaur on a large island, starting as a hatchling, finding water and food, avoiding predators and growing into an adult.
OtaHub's take
What defines the game is the absence of a guiding quest chain. Each species hunts, moves and hides in its own way, and sound, tracks and terrain matter as much as fighting skill. Death means losing the growth of the current animal, so a chase carries the weight of the hours invested beforehand.
The EVRIMA branch is The Isle's newer development platform and kept expanding in 2026. Patch 0.21.772 in August 2026 added Austroraptor with abilities such as Pounce, Water Jump and Spearfishing, and enlarged the Mangroves area. According to OtaHub's analysis based on SteamCharts, average player counts climbed clearly during the year, with an all-time peak of 27,965 concurrent players recorded on 30 August 2026.
Verdict
The Isle suits players who like slow survival, role-play through behaviour and accept losing progress after a mistake. The game is still in Early Access, so expect systems to shift with each update.
