Overview
Detective Conan (Thám Tử Lừng Danh Conan in Vietnam) is Gosho Aoyama's mystery manga, serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday since January 1994. Teen detective Shinichi Kudo is forced to swallow poison by two members of a mysterious criminal syndicate and wakes up in a child's body. Hiding his identity, he lives as Conan Edogawa in the home of his childhood friend Ran Mouri, quietly solving cases on behalf of her bumbling detective father Kogoro while searching for leads on the Black Organization.
OtaHub's take
Conan's formula combines tidy standalone cases, usually wrapped up within a few chapters, with a long Black Organization storyline that Aoyama has fed out over many years. The cases focus on tricks and verifiable deduction, giving readers enough to guess the culprit themselves. Around them is a large supporting cast, from prefectural police to rival detectives, while the romance between Shinichi and Ran keeps the series from being just a string of murders.
The manga reached 108 volumes as of April 2026. TMS Entertainment's anime has aired since 8 January 1996 with more than 1,200 episodes, alongside a film released every year. In 2026, for the anime's 30th anniversary, the team produced a two-hour special titled 30号殺人事件. Also according to OtaHub, Aoyama has confirmed that he finished a rough storyboard for the final chapter, but has not revealed when the series will end.
Verdict
A long-term pick for mystery fans who like to reason alongside the characters before the answer is revealed. Given its size of more than a hundred volumes, newcomers can read case by case and still keep up with the main Black Organization thread, then move on to the films once they know the cast well.
