Overview
Grand Theft Auto V was developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, releasing on 17 September 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It takes place in the fictional state of San Andreas, with the city of Los Santos modeled on Los Angeles and rural Blaine County. It has three playable protagonists: Michael De Santa, a retired bank robber, Franklin Clinton, a street gangster, and Trevor Philips, a drug dealer and gunrunner.
OtaHub's take
The game later came to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (18 November 2014), Windows (14 April 2015) and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (15 March 2022). Per Wikipedia, it is the second best-selling video game of all time with over 230 million copies shipped and nearly $10 billion in revenue, including a record $800 million on day one. That is why GTA V remains the name mentioned whenever GTA VI comes up.
On Nintendo Switch there is no official GTA V. According to OtaHub and Beebom, Take-Two sent a cease-and-desist to modding group Paralympics Productions, ending its unofficial port running natively on Switch and an Android port in progress; the group closed on 3 October 2026. Beebom quotes Rockstar's mod guidelines forbidding modifying its games to run on platforms where they are not officially released. Take-Two has not stated a direct reason, and this is not an announcement of an official Switch version.
Verdict
GTA V is still the easiest entry point to the GTA series on PC and current-generation consoles, with a huge amount of content. Anyone waiting for an official Switch version has heard nothing from Rockstar or Take-Two, and the homemade port has been shut down.
