A Licensing Wave Out Of Anime NYC 2026
At Anime NYC 2026, publisher Tokyopop announced seven new manga licenses for the North American market, alongside two additional manhwa titles, with most releases planned for 2027.

1. Garagarapon, A War Between Reality And Imagination

Leading the list is Garagarapon, centered on two government officials, Daichi Hongou and Hisui Tenma, tasked with resolving and mediating conflicts that arise between the real world and the worlds and objects born from imagination, daydreams, and idle thoughts, a surreal premise rarely seen in licensed manga.

2. "And Then, She Became Mina", The Standout Psychological Horror Pick

The most talked-about title in this announcement is And Then, She Became Mina, following high schooler Mina, a survivor of a random daylight mass murder who lives on after receiving a heart transplant. The real tragedy begins when Mina discovers the heart transplanted into her body belonged to Shimizu Misako, the very perpetrator of the murders.

3. SIX: Paths of Horror And The Rest Of The Lineup

The remaining licenses include SIX: Paths of Horror – The Manga, What Goes On Behind the Scenes, The Commander's Proposal Is Out of the Question!, Breathe Out, Look at Me, and First Love Begins with a Second Kiss. Alongside these, Tokyopop also confirmed two new manhwa, Lily of the Valley and Magic Soup, bringing the total announced titles to nine.

4. Part Of A Larger Licensing Wave At Anime NYC 2026

Tokyopop's announcement is just one part of a broader licensing wave at Anime NYC 2026, the event also saw Seven Seas Entertainment reveal 18 new licenses, Yen Press announce a fresh batch of light novels and manga, and numerous other publishers expand their North American catalogs. All seven Tokyopop manga and two manhwa are slated for a 2027 release; OtaHub will update this page with exact dates as they're confirmed.

Who Writes and Draws Each Title

According to Comics Beat, Tokyopop made these announcements at Anime NYC on August 21, 2026. Garagarapon is written by Yosuke Takahashi and drawn by Mimori. And Then, She Became Mina is written by Takeshi Nozawa and illustrated by Yoshimi Nanjo. Nashi's SIX: Paths of Horror – The Manga adapts a horror novel made of six linked stories, each leading into the next.

The Commander's Proposal Is Out of the Question! is a fantasy romance written by Kanawa Tachibana and drawn by Makiko Saiki. The remaining three titles are boys' love: Kiyo Mori's Breathe Out, Look at Me, Psyche Delico's What Goes On Behind the Scenes and Taeko Harada's First Love Begins with a Second Kiss. That makes three of the seven manga in this batch boys' love.

Per The Outer Haven, the two manhwa are Lily of the Valley (Rangrari) and Magic Soup (Kimpeacock and Tropicalarmpit). Lily of the Valley follows a woman sent to a duke's estate who must weigh family duty against her feelings for a handmaid. Magic Soup centers on a chef who works for an ice-cold magician to fulfill his mother's dying wish. Specific release dates for all nine titles have not been announced.
