MVK Esports will face FURIA in the first round of the 2026 League of Legends World Championship Play-In. The opening session starts at 1 a.m. on October 16 in Vietnam, but Riot’s overview checked here does not confirm the order of the two series. Four teams are competing for one Swiss berth; losing the opener will not end MVK’s run.

How did MVK Esports draw FURIA?
The Play-In draw followed the CBLOL final on October 10, local time. RFT.GG reports that LOS beat FURIA 3–2 to take Brazil’s first seed. FURIA consequently entered the Play-In and drew MVK, the third seed from the Asia-Pacific LCP.
The other series pairs Karmine Corp, EMEA’s third LEC seed, with Cloud9, North America’s third LCS seed. This draw determines the opening Play-In opponents, rather than Swiss matchups. Team Secret Whales qualified directly for Swiss and is outside this four-team bracket.
Is October 16 the Vietnam date or the US date?
It is the Vietnam date. Riot’s schedule lists the Play-In session start as 11 a.m. PDT in Los Angeles, or 8 p.m. CEST in Europe. For the US opening date of October 15, that converts to 1 a.m. on October 16 in Vietnam. Prepare on Thursday night, October 15, rather than waiting until Friday evening.
RFT.GG schedules MVK–FURIA at the opening time and Karmine Corp–Cloud9 at a planned 6 a.m. on October 16 in Vietnam. However, Strafe says the match order is unconfirmed, while Riot’s overview gives only the session start. Those matchup-specific times are provisional. Check LoL Esports before setting a reminder specifically for MVK.
What happens if MVK wins or loses to FURIA?
The Play-In uses upper and lower brackets, known as double elimination. A best-of-five series contains up to five games, with the first team to win three taking the series. Losing a game is therefore different from losing the match, and the opener is not a single-game contest.
If MVK beats FURIA, it stays in the upper bracket and faces the winner of Karmine Corp–Cloud9. If it loses, it drops to the lower bracket to face the loser of that other opener. The lower-bracket match is an elimination series: another loss there ends MVK’s run.
Winning the opener does not secure a Swiss berth. MVK must still progress through the bracket and win the series that decides the final spot. This stage sends only one of its four participants through.
Who can the Play-In winner face in Swiss?
The Play-In winner enters Tier 4 alongside CTBC Flying Oyster, Invictus Gaming and Dplus Kia. Riot pairs Tier 4 against Tier 1 in the opening Swiss round; Tier 1 contains Gen.G, Anyone’s Legend, Team Liquid Alienware and G2 Esports. This identifies possible opponents, rather than a confirmed matchup, which still requires the draw.
The initial Swiss draw follows the end of Play-In on October 18 in the US, after the session beginning at 1 a.m. on October 19 in Vietnam. That 1 a.m. time is the start of play, not the draw; the qualification series must finish first. See OtaHub’s draw and stage schedule in Vietnam time, or its Team Secret Whales and MVK schedule.

OtaHub’s take
The FURIA opener matters because a win keeps MVK in the upper bracket and avoids an immediate elimination series in its next match. A loss leaves a route forward, but that route runs through the lower bracket. This explains the practical stakes behind “losing once is not elimination.”
The draw alone does not show whether FURIA is a favorable opponent. Its 2–3 loss in the Brazilian final tells us that series went five games; it does not establish an advantage for MVK in strength or form. For viewers in Vietnam, the immediate task is to prepare for the 1 a.m. October 16 Play-In session, check the MVK–FURIA listing and follow the next bracket matchup once the series ends.
Frequently asked questions
When does the Play-In start in Vietnam?
At 1 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026. That is 11 a.m. PDT on October 15 in Los Angeles; prepare on the night of October 15.
Does beating FURIA immediately qualify MVK for Swiss?
No. MVK would advance in the upper bracket and still need to secure the Play-In’s single berth through the qualification series.
Does the Swiss draw have a fixed start time?
Riot confirms it follows the conclusion of Play-In on October 18, US time. The start depends on the final series ending; it is not the 1 a.m. October 19 session start in Vietnam.
