Is Dragon Ball DAIMA, the last anime title directly supervised by Akira Toriyama, worthy of a legacy? Full review of all 20 episodes.
Overview
A spell from the Demon Realm turns Goku, Vegeta and their allies into children while keeping their adult strength and intellect, opening a fresh journey without breaking the power system built over decades.
OtaHub's take
Across 20 episodes the series explores the Demon Realm, a parallel dimension long mentioned in Dragon Ball lore but never examined: the society of the Demons, the history of the Demon King Supreme and its ties to the origin of the Super Saiyan.
Akira Toriyama died in March 2024 while DAIMA was in its final stage of production; he personally supervised and approved everything from character designs to the overall story, making it his farewell to the franchise.
Toei Animation clearly invested more in the animation than for Dragon Ball Super, with better choreographed fights and a Norihito Sumitomo score that blends Dragon Ball Z nostalgia with a modern sound. Newcomer Glorio is a standout.
