The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes is bringing the light novel and anime franchise to consoles in 2027. Revealed during the September 2026 State of Play, it is a single-player 3D action roguelite developed by Aiming and Team Caravan and published in the West by NIS America.
How the roguelite combat works
Phantom Echoes focuses on fast melee combat and repeatable runs. Players unlock random enhancements during a run, then combine selected abilities to create different builds. The developers' examples include improving how often a special move can be used or accepting a longer activation time in exchange for a more powerful strike. That structure should make each attempt play differently even when revisiting the same encounters.
The first footage places Alpha at the center of the action, cutting through enemies with sword attacks and magic. NIS America's store listing describes the project as the franchise's first full-scale action roguelite. It is a different experience from the existing mobile and PC title Master of Garden, rather than a console port of that game.
An original story connected to the main series
The premise opens with Alpha finding Shadow beside an injured Delta, raising the question of why the leader of Shadow Garden appears to have attacked one of the Seven Shadows. According to the development team, the game tells a completely original story supervised by series creator Daisuke Aizawa and produced in collaboration with Kadokawa. It is intended to connect with the wider narrative rather than retell an anime season.
The Seven Shadows are a major focus, although the publisher has not yet revealed the complete playable roster or how characters outside Alpha will work. The announcement trailer is therefore best read as an introduction to the premise and combat direction, not a complete feature list.
Platforms and release window
Phantom Echoes is scheduled for 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. PC storefront pages are live on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Steam lists single-player support, achievements, cloud saves, English and Japanese audio, and subtitles in multiple languages. A final launch date and price have not been announced.
