The Kaiju No. 8 finale is heading to Japanese cinemas

The announcement was made at Defence Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa on October 24, 2026. A final chapter had already been confirmed at Jump Festa in December 2025. The latest announcement establishes its format as a theatrical film, opening in Japan in 2027.

For viewers waiting for the story to continue after season two, this is the anime series’ conclusion. The final stretch will bring Kafka and the Defense Force’s story to the big screen.

The first visual introduces a looming threat

The first promotional visual places an enormous unidentified monster amid a ruined landscape, accompanied by a line meaning “The age of humanity ends.” Shinji Kimura, who worked as art director on the television anime, created the illustration. You can watch TOHO animation’s announcement video.

Kafka Hibino’s voice actor Masaya Fukunishi noted that he will turn 32 in the film’s release year, matching his character’s age. He also expressed his commitment to staying with Kafka through the story’s conclusion.

A cleanup worker who dreams of joining the Defense Force

Kaiju No. 8 adapts Naoya Matsumoto’s manga. Kafka Hibino cleans up monster remains after battles, but still wants to join the Defense Force and fulfill a childhood promise to Mina Ashiro.

An unexpected ability to transform into a kaiju gives him the strength to fight, while also making him a potential target for the force he hopes to join. That conflict begins the story before two anime seasons take him into larger battles.

The film currently has a 2027 release window in Japan. A specific date and a Vietnamese theatrical release have not been announced.
