After a week of uncontrolled gameplay leaks sparked "downgrade" accusations, Rockstar Games fired back with a 26-minute Extended Look, exclusive on Netflix before rolling out to YouTube.
For more than a week before the event, a leaker known as "Cyberleek" had been posting unauthorized footage from a pre-release build of GTA VI. A handful of those clips led part of the community to worry the game had been "downgraded" from what earlier official trailers had shown.
On August 26, Rockstar broke its silence with an open letter directly addressing the leaks, announcing that an Extended Look would air the very next day, August 27, on Netflix.
The video opens with Jason and Lucia entering an apartment building to meet a drug dealer named Boobie — the deal quickly goes south as police raid the building, forcing the pair to shoot their way out with pistols and shotguns. After the GTA 6 logo card, the tone shifts to a quiet, domestic moment as Jason waits for Lucia to get ready for a party, followed by a scene of the two robbing a diner — a finished version of gameplay that first leaked back in 2022.
In the video's second half, Jason fires a rifle at pursuing police while Lucia drives their getaway car through the streets of Vice City, and in a separate scene, the pair take a nighttime security job at a lavish party that turns into a hand-to-hand and gunfight sequence. The entire video was confirmed to be captured on a base PlayStation 5, not a PS5 Pro.
Shortly after the Extended Look aired, outlets including Kotaku, GamesRadar, and TechRadar compared the leaked 2022 diner-robbery clip side-by-side with the finished official version, showing a clear visual leap. Most of the "downgrade" concerns stemming from the earlier leaks were widely seen as overblown and not representative of the game's final quality.
Rockstar Games reconfirmed Grand Theft Auto VI's worldwide launch date remains November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, unaffected by the leaks. Pre-orders have been live since June 25, 2026 at the Rockstar Store, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store, with only two official editions currently available:
Rockstar has not confirmed any Deluxe or Collector's Edition for launch — if one arrives, it would most likely be revealed closer to release, following the same playbook the studio used for GTA V.
