On August 27, 2026, Rockstar Games premiered a 26-minute “Extended Look” at Grand Theft Auto VI exclusively on Netflix. Unlike earlier cinematic trailers, this video focuses mostly on real gameplay: cover-based shooting, a Focus interaction mechanic inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2, and a dual-protagonist structure with Jason and Lucia.
Leonida: one of the liveliest open worlds yet
Rockstar describes the fictional state of Leonida as its most ambitious and detailed game environment ever. Beyond a modern Vice City of white-sand beaches and luxury resorts, the game extends to flooded swamplands, suburban slums and remote towns. Each region has its own flora, fauna and population density. The Extended Look shows unprecedented NPC and traffic density on both beaches and in urban areas, plus detailed night lighting in an aerial shot.
Lucia & Jason: real-time teamwork
The relationship between Lucia and Jason is inspired by Bonnie & Clyde. During heists or police chases:
- Players can switch control between the two characters instantly with one button.
- The other character is controlled by AI that covers you, restrains hostages, cracks safes or drives the getaway vehicle.
- The inventory is grounded: heavy weapons are kept in car trunks or duffel bags rather than magically on your back.
Shooting and open-world density
The Extended Look spends a lot of time on the rebuilt cover-shooting system and on a real-time Focus mechanic reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar also emphasizes that NPC and vehicle density in Leonida’s beach and urban areas is far higher than in any previous GTA.

Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S after two delays. A PC version is expected to be announced after a long optimization period.
